DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Tanzania Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange equity ended in red district for both All Share index and market capitalization. The equity market capitalization dropped TZS 114 billion (about US$52.7 million) to end at TZS 21,446 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 21,560 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) slacked by 12.69 points or 0.52 percent to end at 2,448.68 points. However, Tanzanian domestic Share Index gained 1.94 points or 0.04 percent to end at 4,593.45 points.
In terms of the sectors, the Banks, Finance & Investment sector soared by 0.84 percent or 25.72 points to end at 3,087.46 points. Industrial & Allied sector index plunged by 14.12 points or 0.23 percent to close at 6,130.88 points and Commercial services sector index stayed at 3,949.07.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 5,191.00 million from 9,556,909 shares traded in 96 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,983.71 million from 5,150,439 shares traded in 58 deals. CRDB traded 9,383,279 shares in 48 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 70,840 shares in 19 deals. Tanga Cement Company Limited traded 720 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 1,000 shares in 1 deal and Swala Gases Tanzania had 20 shares in 1 deal. Tanzania Breweries Limited registered 101,050 shares in 26 deals.
On the market strength/breadth perspectives, the market breadth ended negative today, with one gainer and seven laggards. National Microfinance Bank added 1.45 percent to settle at TZS 2,790. Whereas, Kenya Airways Limited dropped 8.33 percent to close at TZS 110 and Tanga Cement Company Limited close at TZS 3,150 after falling by 7.35 percent. Uchumi Supermarket Limited dropped 4.76 percent to conclude at TZS 200, Acacia Mining Limited slumped by 1.34 percent to end at TZS 7,390, East Africa Breweries Limited plunged by 1.06 percent to trade t TZS 5,600 and Jubilee Holdings Limited ended at TZS 10,450 by dropping 1.04 percent. National Media Group traded at TZS 3,020 by dropping 0.66 percent.
